Martha Winans

Martha Argust Winans passed away in April of 2022. Martha and her husband, Randy Winans, lived in Whittier, CA for many of their married years, where they both were teachers. After graduating from TJ, she studied social work at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and earned a BA in elementary education in Montana. Martha also was the president of the teachers' association of the Whittier City School District. She retired from her beloved teaching career several years ago due to health issues. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Winans, and leaves seven sons, a daughter, and several grandchildren.

Our paths had crossed several times: we were both from Pueblo, but didn't know each other then. My mother knew of her father, though. Then both our families moved to Denver, where we met at TJ and discovered our Pueblo connection. When we went off to college, she went to Willamette University in Salem, OR (she roomed with Linda Bayer) and we saw each other a couple of times since I went to Oregon College of Education, which is a few miles from Salem. We graduated, she got married and went to California, and we lost touch for a few years. I then moved to California, and we re-connected briefly. Again, we lost touch, but became Facebook friends some time later and have stayed mostly in touch for a number of years. She had a stroke several years ago and was forced to retire from her beloved teaching career. She was a kind and caring person who leaves a large extended family. Ray
