Glen liked the adrenaline rush of going FAST! He was an avid skier, and several times picked me up in his fathers bright green Gremlin and took me skiing up at Eldora. Well, actually, he took me along so I could side step up the hill to an assigned gate and be the gate watcher because he was one of the racing competitors. Several of these races were at night under the lights--it was COLD standing there at a gate for hours waiting for about 50 racers to come down one after the other! The hot chocolate at the end was worth it though.

I'm brought down by the number of fellow ROTC people no longer with us, and Glenn is certainly one of those. I didn't really know him outside of the 4 years in ROTC, but he was a hard-charging get-things-done kind of person and a real asset to our activities. Too young; too bad; too bad.

Ray Finnell - August 25th, 2022
Our paths had crossed several times: we were both from Pueblo, but didn't know each other then. My mother knew of her father, though. Then both our families moved to Denver, where we met at TJ and discovered our Pueblo connection. When we went off to college, she went to Willamette University in Salem, OR (she roomed with Linda Bayer) and we saw each other a couple of times since I went to Oregon College of Education, which is a few miles from Salem. We graduated, she got married and went to California, and we lost touch for a few years. I then moved to California, and we re-connected briefly. Again, we lost touch, but became Facebook friends some time later and have stayed mostly in touch for a number of years. She had a stroke several years ago and was forced to retire from her beloved teaching career. She was a kind and caring person who leaves a large extended family. Ray

Jon Beck

Birth Date: 1954-02-17
Deceased Date: 2011-10-30
Obituary:
SILT, Colorado – Police here are still waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports on Jon Beck, a Silt electrician found dead in a ditch on Oct. 30, but the investigation has yielded a partial story of Beck’s travels that weekend.

The photographic record from an automatic teller in Glenwood Springs showed Beck taking money out of an account that evening, Burris said, “So we know he was in Glenwood and had money in his pocket.”

Police believe Beck took a bus back from Glenwood Springs to Silt either that night or the next day, although they have not pinned down which bus he might have been on, Burris continued.

Beck’s body was discovered in the Cactus Valley Ditch at shortly before 3 p.m. on Oct. 30, by a group of boys walking alongside the ditch.

There was cash in Beck’s pockets when he was found, Burris said, leading police to conclude that robbery was not involved in his death.

Burris said a witness, interviewed by police, said he saw something in the same ditch at about noon on the same day but did not get close enough to identify what it was.

Burris said the investigation has turned up “nothing to indicate it’s suspicious or anything,” referring to Beck’s manner of death.

Beck was found partially submerged in roughly three feet of water in the ditch.

I remember John. He was a thoughtful and caring person. We shared an interest in long distance running and even worked together for the airlines. How sad I was to come across his obituary. I’m sure he is greatly missed. He was definitely one of the good ones!
Jan Ellen Kinney - June 16th, 2022
John was a decent, kind man. We first met while being on Varsity Track. Of course, John was on Boy's team and I, on Girl's Team. Our track meets were at same location though - South High. He was voted "King Eros" on 14FEB 1972. Deservedly so! John and I both attended CSU, but our paths never crossed. Years later we reconnected at Stapleton's Flowers a la Karte. A handsome Frontier Flight Attendant stopped by to chat, and it turned out to be John Bramley! After that, he would often stop by before a trip or after a trip. Hearing about John being killed while climbing Longs Peak hit me hard. Knowing he was doing what he loved is my only solace. "Rocky Mountain High" Jan

David Chapmon

Birth Date: 1954-07-17
Deceased Date: 2013-01-21
Obituary:
On the wall behind me as I write this is a black-and-white photo of me and my staff during senior year in Army JROTC. I was fortunate to be the cadet battalion commander that year, and also fortunate to have some very good guys in the organization.

Dave is in that photo (as is Glenn Anderson, alas also deceased). We went through the program together, for 4 years. I remember Dave as unfailingly cheerful, idealistic, hardworking, and friendly. Nobody could shine shoes better, nor disassemble and reassemble an M1 rifle faster!

A couple of years later, when I was a plebe at the Naval Academy, he was nearby as an Air Force senior airman at Fort Meade, Maryland. Once when I had a rare weekend when I could get away, he reached out to me, came and got me on his motorcycle, and took me to his barracks at Fort Meade -- a really fun adventure and very nice of him to arrange. By the way, you got to love Air Force dining halls..

I regret to say I lost contact with him over the years, and I don't recall him coming to any previous reunions.

But, look at that cheerful face in that photo.....that's Dave, for sure.

Jack was a really kind guy who loved to ride with the wind, I had fun with you hiking one summer long ago, and you must have read an entire library of books. You deserve a rest my friend. - Sandy Bither Fitzgerald

I didn't know Jack in school but became friends with him after graduation. Always a very fun guy and a pretty good bicycle racer. I will remember him forever for describing an bike accident he once had (and survived), by saying "I tried to draft a parked car". RIP, Jack
