1955-11-07 2005-03-06Bruce Carroll Norvell, 49, died Sunday, March 6, 2005. He was a longtime resident of the Peninsula and a Chester resident for the last six years. Bruce was a member of the Riversbend Golf Club, where he exercised his love for golf. He was employed by Eley's and tended bar at Mike's Place in Newport News and later became a sales representative for Valspar Corporation. Bruce had a keen sense of humor that will be missed by all. 1955-03-30 1990-02-28NORFOLK Davie T. Oakley, 35, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, in his home. Mr. Oakley was a native of Newport News and a 1974 graduate of Ferguson High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he was employed at Norfolk Naval Base as a civil service police officer. Survivors include his grandmother, Sallie Rogers of Spring Hope, N.C; six sisters, Catherine Wilkins and Charlene Yarborough, both of Spring Hope, Debra Oakley and Patricia Oakley, both of Newport News, and Connie Oakley and Faye Oakley, both of Washington, D.C.; and two brothers, Steven Oakley of Newport News and Pernell Oakley of New Jersey.

NEWPORT NEWS - James Curtis Parks, 42, died at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, after an extended siege of cancer.
He was born in Hampton but resided in Newport News for the past 34 years. He graduated from Ferguson High School, Thomas Nelson Community College and Christopher Newport University.
Mr. Parks was baptized in Bethany United Methodist Church and most recently attended First United Methodist Church, Hilton Village.

Timothy Dowling Parsons , 62, died peacefully after a brief illness in Franklin, Virginia on Sunday, October 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Tim is predeceased by his parents, Dale J. Parsons, Sr. and Belle Farmer Parsons.
His survivors include 3 brothers, Dale Jr. (Ginny) of Hana, Hawaii, Douglas (Heather) of Chesapeake, and Brian of Norfolk and 4 sisters, Susan Kitchen (Mark) of Franklin, Patty Bryant (Mac) of Courtland, Judy Parsons (George Turner) of Wakefield, and Mary Jones (Mark) of Wilmington, North Carolina. Dr. Perconte (also known as Sweetheart, Dad, Stephen, Steve, Dr. Steve, and Elvis depending on your relationship with him) was just days away from retirement after serving the nations veterans for over 37 years. As Chief Psychologist of the Pittsburgh VA, he compassionately attended to the needs of the men and women who fought in all wars from World War II to the present. Born in Newport News, he attended Warwick High School where he was on the cross-country team. A Navy veteran, he was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Irma C. Bell of Newport News; a sister, Mrs. Debra Mullins of Hampton; two brothers, Michael W. Phillips of Annandale and Keith R. Phiillips of Hilton Head; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Selden J. Carter of Hampton.

At Nancy and Ray's home, no guest could go long without a laugh, a drink, or too much to eat. When preparing for a party of 10 people, Nancy cooked enough food for 25 and had enough funny stories for 100.
Nancy Price, 54, passed away at their Newport News home on Nov. 26, after suffering from cancer.

Robert Ray Reid, (Bobby), 67, Newport News, passed away on December 8, 2021. Born December 20, 1953, Bobby attended Denbigh High School class of ’73. He retired as a nuclear pipefitter from Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Bobby was fun-loving and always laughing. Whether he was the butt of the joke or making the joke he always made everyone laugh and smile at his antics. He loved fast cars and watching history documentaries.
There rarely wasn’t a problem he couldn’t research to find the answer to. His favorite pastime was torturing his wife of 47 years with ghost shows. “Why do they think they can travel to Italy and speak English to a 400- year-old ghost?”
