Frank ZZ Nurthern

Brother Francis T. “Frank” Nurthern did not attend Cathedral Latin School, but he was named the Alumni Man of the Year in 1966. That was because of the high regard graduates had for the former teacher and administrator.
The honors came even higher in 1983, when alumni gave him the “Our Man of the Year Award; for All Years, Past and Present.”
“He was the essence of the Cathedral Latin Alumni Association,” said Jim Hyland of University Heights, the association’s treasurer.
Brother Frank lived in recent months at the Marianist Community’s St. Leonard Center in Centerville, Ohio He died Tuesday in Dayton. He was 86.

Mr. Pelton worked as an Industrial Arts teacher for 41 years – at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School and Westlake City Schools. JOSEPH Radican, 72, died May 31 at the Hospice of the Western Reserve from complications of melanoma.
Joseph Aloysius Radican was the first lay principal of St. Joseph High School, back when it was the biggest boys’ Catholic school in Ohio. He also led Lake Catholic High School and was named regional principal of the year by the National Catholic Education Association.
"His voice was very deep and commanding," said St. Joseph alumnus Tim Robertson, Jr., who studied history with Radican. "He was a very articulate man who knew his history."

James E. Simonis, guidance director for St. Peter Chanel High School in Bedford, was the first principal of Lake Catholic High School in Mentor.
When he was appointed principal of Lake County's first Catholic high school in 1970, Mr. Simonis became the second layman to serve as a high school principal in the Cleveland Catholic Diocese.
He held the post until becoming principal of St. Joseph High School in Cleveland in 1976. He joined the staff at St. Peter Chanel in 1988.
