Patricia 'Tricia' Pittard, 53, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2007, after a courageous 15 year battle with cancer. She died in her home surrounded by her family. She had devoted her life to serving God and others, especially her family. She was known for her grace and hospitality, and her home was a haven for many in need. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mabel Bentley. Waiting to join her in heaven are her husband of 30 years, Bruce Pittard; her daughters, Erin and Joanna Pittard; her father and step-mother, Mac and Joyce Bentley; her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Vicki Bentley and her sister, Pam Bickett.

Dr. Tyrome M. Best (Ty) departed this life peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was born February 10, 1955, in Edgecombe County North Carolina, the firstborn to parents, the late Claude and Margaret Best. He graduated from Warwick High School in 1973. In 1977, Ty graduated from Hampton Institute (University) with honors earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication. He was also awarded two honorary Doctorates.

A native of Newport News, he was a 1973 graduate of Menchville High School and resided in Gloucester, VA. Mr. Bradley was a master brick mason and was known for his intricate brick work throughout the Peninsula. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Bradley. He is survived by his mother, Helen Bradley of Newport News; his brother, Patrick Bradley of Drakes Branch, VA; maternal aunt, Kitty Fay of Hampton; and numerous cousins.

Joy Dianne Brooks, 68, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023. She was a native of Newport News and a resident of Smithfield. Dianne was an LCSW for over 37 years and at the time of her death, she worked for Colonial Psychiatric Associates. Dianne graduated with a BSSW from CNU and received an MSW from VCU. She was most proud of attending CNU and belonged to their Alumni Association.

Dr. Mary Crist Brown was a chaplain and a teacher of chaplains --- a spiritual rock for hospital workers, patients and anxious families, and an educator who trained seminarians, clergy and lay people in the field of pastoral care.

In the intensive care unit at Northside Hospital, "she stayed grounded and calm in the midst of the storm, which is very helpful in traumatic situations," said Dr. Gene Locke of Roswell, Northside's manager of chaplaincy.

"She was in the trenches with the staff, and she was very supportive when the patient wasn't doing well and the family had to face some tough decisions or if they were grieving and distressed," he said.

Regional Medical Center.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Brown was a lifelong Peninsula resident. He
was employed by Colonial Sales of Elizabeth City, N.C., as military accounts
manager. He was formerly employed by Food Fair, Pantry Pride and Super
Fresh as a produce manager for 16 years. Mr. Brown was a member of Central

Lutrell M. Cherry quietly slipped away to his eternal home on July 29, 2022 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was born September 17, 1955 and raised in Newport News, Virginia in the Newsome Park area.

He was baptized at Second Baptist Church (Miracle Temple) at an early age. Trell graduated from Warwick High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country until his honorable discharge.

He graduated from Menchville High School and, at the age of 18, moved to Atlanta, GA where he attended Georgia Tech and Atlanta Christian College. From the latter institution he received his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry.

Born on September 1, 1955, in Newport News, Virginia, Cliff was the beloved son of the late Eugene Warren Crisp and Maude Lee Kirkland Crisp. A 1973 graduate of Newport News High School/Warwick High School, Cliff pursued further education while serving as a Newport News Police Department Officer. Later, he transitioned into Sales and Marketing, working in the automotive and real estate industries in Newport News.
