Linwood M. Lovett, Jr, 67, passed on July 18, 2022. He was born on September 22,1954 to the late Linwood Sr. and Margaret Lovett in Newport News, VA. He graduated from Menchville High School in 1973. After school he enlisted in the United States Army.

He proudly served in the Newport News Fire Department for 25 years and rose through the ranks to Captain. He also completed the Newport News Police Academy and was promoted to Assistant Fire Marshal. During this time he also used his investigative skills at Riverside Health System serving as their Fire Marshal for 32 years.

Sylvia Lynch Mallicott, of Newport News, Va., went to heaven on Oct. 16, 2012. She was born on Dec. 13, 1954, in Newport News, Va.
Sylvia graduated from Menchville High School in 1973 and also attended Huntington High School. Sylvia worked for the Newport News Shipbuilding Dept 053 for 24 years.
Sylvia was passionate about her faith and was a member of First Baptist Church Denbigh in Newport News, Va., and she later attended First Baptist Church Newport News.
She was preceded in death by her father, Brazzie Lynch.

Rebecca Lynne Maltby Batten, 63, of Suffolk, peacefully left this life on June 20, 2018 and entered into the presence of God. Rebecca passed away at home with her loving husband, Randy Lee Batten and her family by her side. Rebecca was pre-deceased by her father, Kenneth Edward Maltby. Rebecca, "Becky", was the oldest of the four Maltby children, born March 11, 1955 in Lubbock, Texas to (Capt.-USAF)) Kenneth Edward Maltby and Joyce Amy Martin Maltby. She was a member of Beulah Tabernacle where she served as organist and in the choir. Survivors include one son, Jason Delmar Manley; her mother, Ethel A. Manley; her father, Eddie E. Survivors include her mother, Bobbie Parker; loving companion, Wade Medlin; stepdaughter, JaJa McDade; brother-in-law, Mickey D. Owens; two uncles, Arthur Markowitz and Donald S. She was a 1973 graduate of Menchville High School and a member of the Warwick Moose Lodge 1711 and the Women of the Moose Chapter 1386 where she tirelessly volunteered many hours. Robert F. Monroe, age 68, of Newport News, VA died at home on December 21, 2022. Bob graduated from H.L. Ferguson High School and attended Thomas Nelson Community College. He was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Bob was a skilled metal worker and wood carver. He was an avid boat builder, creating wooden sailboats and kayaks. He was a sought after knife creator, using meteorites and unusual metals to create blades. He was a photographer, blacksmith reenactor, star gazer, and lover of nature. Bob picked up scraps of wood and created works of art.
