Survived by a daughter, Shannon Barnes of Newport News; two sons, Kenneth Barnes and Anthony Barnes of Hampton; her mother, Ada L. Jones of Newport News; two sister, Sandra Mabry of Hampton and Carolyn Jones of Newport News; three brothers, Rudolph Jones Jr., Rickey Jones and Michael Jones of Newport News; and two grandchildren.

Franz Randolph "Randy" Jones, 65, passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 11, 2020 at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA. Randy was the son of the late Charles L. Jones Sr. and the late Mary J. Barger. Raised in Newport News, VA, he graduated from Menchville High School in 1973.

Randy was a multi-talented person. He was a capable mechanic and knowledgeable in all the trades. He could always make you smile and told a great story. He would do anything he could to help others. Spending time with his family brought him the utmost joy.

RICHMOND - Newport News - Shirley Ann Kauffman, 59, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014. Shirley, a member of West Hampton Baptist Church, was a loving and devoted sister, aunt and great aunt.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mary Kauffman, and her brother, Jack Kauffman II. She is survived by her sisters, Sarah Hicks (Lester), and Janet Csir (Floyd); her nine nieces and nephews, Jack Kauffman III (Hope), David Kauffman, Elizabeth Strickland, Ace Strickland (Julie), Meredith Hill (Jonathan), James Hicks, Evan and Kaete Csir and Lisa Hicks. Shirley is also survived by 11 beloved great nieces and nephews.

Barbara Lynn Kleopfer died at her home suddenly on Oct. 15, 2007.
She was born Dec. 8, 1954, in Herington, Kan., and came to the local area with her parents in 1964.
Barbara attended Denbigh High School in Newport News and worked for 28 years at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. She began her career as an interpreter and lantern tour guide. Her most recent position was a groomer for the carriage horses used throughout the operations of the historic area. Barbara also cared for all the horses including two of her own at the Boots and Saddles Club at the Fort Eustis stables. Barbara's passion was for her horses and the many animals that always seemed to find her.

Donna was born on October 17, 1955, in Oahu, Hawaii. As a military child, she grew up in multiple locations, from Washington State to Germany, before settling down in Newport News, VA.
Donna graduated from Denbigh High School in 1973, where she enjoyed being a member of the choir. After many years in retail, she worked for over 20 years at Busch Gardens. Her favorite part of the day was making sure her job was done correctly, to ensure the visiting guests enjoyed a beautiful and memorable experience.

Betty is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 33 years, Nelson; the two joys of her life, daughters, Katy and Lisa ;her parents ,Bernard and Elisabeth Koneck ;her brother, Robert and his wife, Sharon ;and two nephews, and Daniel. Betty spent 30 wonderful years with HCA Hospitals as a Medical Technologist. As all who knew Betty would expect, she was a fighter to the end and was blessed to be in the company of so many friends and loved ones as she departed to be with her Father with the same calm and grace as she demonstrated in life.

Carolyn Lewis Sommer, 39, a native of the Peninsula, died Monday, March 28.

Mrs. Sommer was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Newport News, a member of the Paul Toffenetti Sunday School Class and taught pre-school Sunday School. She graduated from Warwick High School and had been employed at Goodman and Co. for 18 years.

Survived by her husband, Ernest F. Sommer, Jr.; a daughter Christine R. Sommer of the home; a son, Wesley F. Sommer of the home; and her parents, Roland and Jean Lewis of Newport News.
